Sports Day is the major and much anticipated annual event of Dawood Public School. This year Dawood Public School celebrated the annual sports week from 18th to 22nd March which culminated into the Annual Sports Festival and Pakistan Day celebrations on 22rd March 2013. All the four houses, Bilquis Edhi House, Fatima Jinnah House, Anita Gulam Ali House and the Bapsi Sidhwa participated in the event.
The Sports Festival and the Pakistan Day celebration were held in the spacious new play ground which was decorated with flags and buntings. Students were seated on separate enclosures under their house banners.
The Sports Day commenced with the recitation of the Surah Ra’ad and its translation. Later the prefects unfurled the national and school flags, all the students joined them in the national anthem.
The sports program began with the march past of the winners of various events dressed in smart PE uniforms of their respective houses. The winners marched past and were greeted with screams and cheers of their friends and house members.
The event was an interesting mix of PE displays, yoga, gymnastics, speeches, skits, tableaus and prize distribution. The speeches highlighted the importance of the Pakistan Day with a pledge to be good citizens of a nation that came into existence by the sacrifices of great men. The preschoolers attired in pretty dresses rendered a national song in their melodious voices. The colorful PE display by the students of Pre Primary and Primary was an amazing sight. The yoga and gymnastics by the primary students were breath taking. The tableau based on Allama Iqbal’s poem” Shahid ki Makhi” was performed with precision. The students of class VIII enacted a skit “ Ithehad ” The performance was excellent and it received thunderous applause from the audience.
The ‘Tug of War’ between the students of O-level and A-level sections was very interesting. Strength, endurance and determination to win were seen on both sides. Much to the joy of O level students their team emerged victorious.
A feeling of excitement pervaded the air as the prize distribution ceremony commenced. The lucky winners celebrated their victory joyously when they received their certificates and cups from the CEO. The ground resounded with thunderous applause when the Bilquis Edhi House which had scored the maximum number of points in the sports events held during the sports week was declared the winner house. It was awarded the house trophy.
The sports day ended with a short encouraging speech by the Principal.
