Earth Hour Celebration:

The global event, Earth Hour in collaboration with WWF was held on 25th March, 2014 at Dawood Public School.   Seven Hundred students, including Heads, teachers and students of five other Green Schools from Karachi experienced the happenings of the event.  They pledged to adopt eco friendly ways to conserve energy and to help minimize degradation of the Earth’s environment. Students wore black attires.   WWF Organized two competitions “Be a Super Hero for the Planet’ competition and making a Candle Holder competition.  Falak Jaffer VIII D (DPS) won the super hero competition and Raveen Shiek of IV C (DPS) won the candle holder competition for making an innovative candle holder using recycled material.

TV celebrity Ahsan Khan, official ambassador of Earth Hour 2014, Ms Mavash Roshani , Principal DPS and Mr. Asad, official representative WWF  lighted a candle and inaugurated the event. In his address to the students Mr. Ahsan Khan said that he was delighted to meet the young conscious generation, who were aware of the vital need of saving the environment. He was impressed by the environs of DPS and expressed his pleasure for being a part of the event.

As the bright light of the evening slipped into semi-darkness, candles were lit and all the electric lights were switched off for 60 minutes. This was a silent reminder of all we have to lose if no definite action is taken to curb climatic change and save the Earth.  Students pledged to change their everyday lifestyle and reconnect with their planet.

All in all it was an appreciable effort taken by the schools to spread awareness and follow the resolutions they have made to collectively contribute for a better environment.
