World Book Day:

23rd April is a symbolic date for world literature. It is on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.
To pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date UNESCO declared 23rd April, as the World Book and Copyright Day.
Dawood Public School celebrated “World Book Day” with series of activities from 18th to 22nd April, 2016.
Students in collaboration with their teachers decorated the three libraries beautifully for the World Book Day celebrations. Students’ work such as charts, hangings and new shelf tags were displayed.
A soft board is assigned in every section which displays news, events, information regarding books and libraries. Teacher’s Corner is setup in all the three libraries. This has resources on pedagogical skills, teaching methodologies, journals, magazines and novels. A book was selected as “Book of the Week” and circulated among the teachers via email for reading. Throughout the week students of Class VIII presented useful information in the assembly about the World Book Day, eminent authors, their books and libraries.
A student from each section was selected as the “Best Reader” of the year 2015-16. The entire school students, faculty, admin staff and domestic staff participated in the activity where a specific time was intimated beforehand, at this time everyone in the school had to stop everything they were doing and read a book.  This activity is now a regular part of the ‘School Reading Programme’.
